【摘要】:Newandusedpetroleumproductscancontainbasicconstituentsthatarepresentasadditives.Therelativeamountofthesematerialscanbedeterminedbytitrationwithacids.Thebasenumberisameasureoftheamountofbasicsubstancesintheoilalwaysundertheconditionsofthetest.Itissometimesusedasameasureoflubricantdegradationinservice.However,anycondemninglimitshallbeempiricallyestablished.5.2Asstatedin1.2,thistestmethodusesaweakeracidtotitratethebasethanTestMethodD2896,andthetitrationsolventsarealsodifferent.TestMethodD2896usesastrongeracidandamorepolarsolventsystemthanTestMethodD4739.Asaresult,TestMethodD2896willtitratesaltsofweakacids(soaps),basicsaltsofpolyacidicbases,andweakalkalinesaltsofsomemetals.Theydonotprotecttheoilfromacidiccomponentsduetothedegradationoftheoil.Thistestmethodmayproduceafalselyexaggeratedbasenumber.TestMethodD4739willprobablynottitratetheseweakbasesbut,ifso,willtitratethemtoalesserdegreeofcompletion.Itmeasuresonlythebasiccomponentsoftheadditivepackagethatneutralizesacids.Ontheotherhand,iftheadditivepackagecontainsweakbasiccomponentsthatdonotplayaroleinneutralizingtheacidiccomponentsofthedegradingoil,thentheTestMethodD4739resultmaybefalselyunderstated.5.3Particularcareisrequiredintheinterpretationofthebasenumberofnewandusedlubricants.5.3.1Whenthebasenumberofthenewoilisrequiredasanexpressionofitsmanufacturedquality,TestMethodD2896ispreferred,sinceitisknowntotitrateweakbasesthatthistestmethodmayormaynottitratereliably.5.3.2Whenthebasenumberofin-serviceorat-termoilisrequired,thistestmethodispreferredbecauseinmanycases,especiallyforinternalcombustionengineoils,weaklybasicdegradationproductsarepossible.TestMethodD2896willtitratethese,thusgivingafalsevalueofessentialbasicity.Thistestmethodmayormaynottitratetheseweakacids.5.3.3Whenthelossofbasenumbervalue,astheoilsproceedinservice,istheconsideration,thistestmethodistobepreferredandallvaluesincludingtheunusedoilshallbedeterminedbythistestmethod.BasenumbersobtainedbythistestmethodshallnotberelatedtobasenumbersobtainedbyanothertestmethodsuchasTestMethodD2896.5.3.4InASTMInterlaboratoryCrosscheckProgramsforbothnewandusedlubricants,historicallyTestMethodD2896givesahighervalueforbasenumber.1.1Thistestmethodcoversaprocedureforthedeterminationofbasicconstituentsinpetroleumproductsandnewandusedlubricants.Thistestmethodresolvestheseconstituentsintogroupshavingweak-baseandstrong-baseionizationproperties,providedthedissociationconstantsofthemorestronglybasiccompoundsareatleast1000timesthanthatofthenextweakergroups.Thistestmethodcoversbasenumbersupto250.1.2Innewandusedlubricants,theconstituentsthatcanbeconsideredtohavebasicpropertiesareprimarilyorganicandinorganicbases,includingaminocompounds.Thistestmethoduseshydrochloricacidasthetitrant,whereasTestMethodD2896usesperchloricacidasthetitrant.Thistestmethodmayormaynottitratetheseweakbasesand,ifso,itwilltitratethemtoalesserdegreeofcompletion;someadditivessuchasinhibitorsordetergentsmayshowbasiccharacteristics.1.3Whentestingusedenginelubricants,itshouldberecognizedthatcertainweakbasesaretheresultoftheserviceratherthanhavingbeenbuiltintotheoil.Thistestmethodcanbeusedtoindic......
